Their plans cover major expenses like diagnostics, surgeries, and medications, plus extras such as 24/7 telehealth and poison helplines.

However, this Pets Plus Us review will show you the limitations to their services and how they could affect you over time too.

Pets Plus Us overview

Pets Plus Us offers flexible pet insurance plans tailored to cover veterinary costs arising from accidents, illnesses, and optional routine care, helping you manage unexpected medical expenses while supporting your pet’s overall health.

In this Pets Plus Us review, you’ll find plans with annual limits up to $15,000, covering consultations, surgeries, hospital stays, and emergency care. You’ll equally get access to Blue Ribbon Benefits like 24/7 telehealth and poison control. The Flex Care add-on handles routine needs such as vaccines and dental care.

In case you’re wondering, how much does Pets Plus Us pet insurance cost? It varies by pet type. It’s also dependent on the coverage chosen and location. However, CAA members get a 13.5% discount, making it cost-effective and comprehensive for peace of mind.

Pets Plus Us products and services

Pets Plus Us offers solid coverage for both accidents and illnesses, Blue Ribbon Benefits and Flex Care for dogs and cats in Canada.

Accidents and illness

Pets Plus Us’ Accident & Illness plan is designed to shield you from the shock of high vet bills. It covers diagnostics, surgeries, medications, hospitalizations, and even specialist referrals, so your pet gets the care they need, fast.

You choose annual coverage up to $15,000 (or $7,500), and Pets Plus Us pet insurance reimburses 70%, 80%, or 90% of eligible claims based on what works for your budget.

Whether it’s a laceration, fracture, or swallowed object, the plan has you covered, letting you focus on your pet’s recovery, not the cost.

With clear terms and a fast reimbursement process, you maintain control and freedom while ensuring your pet’s health.

Accidents

What happens if your pet suddenly breaks a bone or swallows something hazardous? Pets Plus Us’s Accident Coverage plan steps in, offering financial help for injuries like fractures, cuts, and ingestion of foreign objects.

You get reimbursed for a broad range of veterinary expenses. This includes diagnostics, surgery, medication, hospitalization, and specialist visits, up to an annual limit of $5,000.

Coverage kicks in after a 48-hour waiting period, giving you quick protection against unexpected accidents without covering pre-existing conditions.

This plan is ideal for pets prone to accidents and lets you choose your preferred vet. Managing vet bills becomes easier, so you can focus on your pet’s recovery instead of the cost.

Blue ribbon

Accidents like broken bones and swallowing hazards can lead to costly treatments, but Pets Plus Us also offers valuable support beyond insurance coverage.

Their Blue Ribbon Benefits provide you with helpful services such as convenient telehealth consultations, so you can get veterinary advice whenever you need it without leaving home.

You also gain 24/7 access to the Pet Poison Helpline, offering immediate assistance if your pet ingests something harmful.

To support you emotionally, bereavement counseling helps manage the difficult experience of losing a pet. Plus, you get access to learning resources that empower you with knowledge to better care for your pet’s health.

Wellness

Planning for your pet’s ongoing health is crucial, and Pets Plus Us offers several wellness-focused products and services to support this goal.

The Flex Care add-on reimburses routine preventive treatments like annual exams, vaccines, flea and tick prevention, nail trimming, and dental care. This helps you spread the cost of these essential services over 12 months, making budgeting easier.

Flex Care also covers seasonal care needs to prevent illnesses before they start. While it supports proactive pet health management, it’s important to note this add-on isn’t available in Quebec but integrates with accident and illness plans in other regions.

When considering how much does Pets Plus Us pet insurance cost, several factors significantly impact your premiums. These include your pet’s species and age, along with the specific coverage plan and geographic location you choose.

The annual deductible you select ranges from $100 to $700 and generally increases as your pet ages. Beyond the deductible, you can choose between Accident Only coverage capped at $5,000 per year.

Alternatively, more comprehensive Accident and Illness plans offer limits of either $7,500 or $15,000 annually.

Each plan gives you control over your reimbursement level after your deductible is met. You can select whether Pets Plus Us covers 70%, 80%, or 90% of eligible veterinary bills. This flexibility lets you balance your monthly premium against your potential out-of-pocket expenses.

If you are a Canadian Automobile Association member, you will receive a 13.5% discount on all policies. This member benefit adds even more value to coverage that already fits your pet’s needs and budget.

Cons of Pet Plus Us

  • Pre-existing conditions excluded: Any health issues that began before enrollment are not covered, leaving you liable for those ongoing treatment costs.
  • Cost sharing required: You pay your share based on your chosen reimbursement rate (10%, 20%, or 30%) plus your annual deductible.
  • Annual payout limits: The maximum coverage limit may not cover extensive or prolonged treatments for severe cases.
  • Quebec restrictions: Flex Care wellness add-on is unavailable in Quebec, limiting access to routine care coverage for residents.
  • Waiting periods apply: Coverage starts 48 hours after enrollment for accidents and 14 days for illnesses, delaying immediate financial assistance.

Alternatives to Pets Plus Us

If you’re exploring alternatives to Pets Plus Us, consider plans like Trupanion, Spot, and Fetch, which offer different coverage options and annual limits.

Comparing these options can help you find a plan that fits your budget and offers the coverage you want.

Trupanion

Trupanion offers a strong alternative to Pets Plus Us by providing unlimited lifetime coverage for veterinary expenses related to accidents and illnesses, without annual payout limits.

You choose your deductible, ranging from $0 to $1,000, with lower deductibles raising your monthly premium.

Trupanion reimburses up to 90% of eligible bills after your deductible, and you’re covered for hereditary and congenital conditions from day one, as long as they aren’t pre-existing.

There’s no upper age limit for enrollment, and you can add coverage for rehab, alternative therapies, or even third-party property damage.

Trupanion pays veterinarians directly, cutting off the inconvenience of waiting for reimbursements after a vet visit.

Spot

Spot Pet Insurance stands out as a flexible alternative to Pets Plus Us by letting you customize reimbursement rates at 70%, 80%, or 90% after a deductible, tailoring your plan to fit your budget.

You get coverage for accidents and illnesses with annual limits up to $10,000, including diagnostics, surgeries, and medications.

Spot covers pets of all ages with no upper age limit, just like Pets Plus Us, but requires a 14-day waiting period for illness coverage.

Beyond insurance, Spot offers 24/7 vet chat support and optional add-ons for routine care like vaccines and dental.

This makes Spot a good choice if you want control over your coverage and access to extra resources, all while managing costs effectively.

Fetch

Fetch Pet Insurance offers a competitive alternative to Pets Plus Us with comprehensive accident and illness coverage. The company provides adjustable annual limits and varying deductible options to fit different budgets.

Fetch offers annual payout limits ranging from $5,000 to $15,000, similar to Pets Plus Us coverage tiers. Deductible choices start as low as $25, giving you more control over your out-of-pocket costs upfront.

Reimbursement rates go up to 90% of eligible veterinary bills after your deductible is met. The claims process is simple and quick, with many submissions done directly via your phone at the vet’s office for added convenience.

However, Fetch has some key differences compared to Pets Plus Us. Unlike Pets Plus Us, Fetch may not include wellness coverage as a standard add-on option.

Free benefits like 24/7 telehealth services and pet poison helplines are also not typically included with Fetch policies. Consider what matters most for your pet’s care when choosing between these two providers.

Conclusion to our Pet Plus Us review

When considering how much Pets Plus Us pet insurance costs and whether it’s the right choice, this Pets Plus Us review confirms the platform gives you flexible, affordable coverage with plans for accidents, illnesses, and routine care add-ons.

You get up to $15,000 annually for vet diagnostics and treatments, plus 24/7 telehealth and poison helpline benefits. It’s available for all ages, though pre-existing conditions and some features are excluded in Quebec.

If you want solid pet insurance tailored to your pet’s needs, Pets Plus Us is a reliable option to protect your furry friend without breaking your budget.

Pets Plus Us has been consistently unresponsive to repeated requests for general clarification on coverage and their definition of pre‑existing conditions on my dog's new policy. Taking out this policy feels less like sound protection and more like a game of roulette - you might be covered, or you might not. A company that can’t provide clear answers doesn’t inspire confidence or deserves business.

STAY AWAY! Paid premiums for over 10 years and the premiums were always removed from my account on the very day required. One claim for a broken tooth requiring surgery and I first received a letter from this awful company saying it would take up to 7 weeks for a response (Bearing in mind my pet is in pain) and then was advised that the claim was not going to be honoured. Easy for Pets Plus Us to grab premium money and it appears it was easy for them to deny the claim! Tooth issue was clearly caused by trauma and not age/hygiene. As a senior on a fixed income, I feel betrayed and taken advantage of by this Pets Plus Us company. SAVE YOUR MONEY! Not worth it! The reason we get pet insurance is to help when emergencies happen and this is the treatment received... They should be ashamed of themselves. ... Show More

What a waste of money. They denied a claim when my dog got injured because they deemed it not an accident. I sent a reassessment claim in along with a detailed letter from my vet stating the injury was an accident. That was in December 2025, well beyond the 30 business days required for their assessment. Now they have ignored all my emails. This is not a service. Don't waste your money. Put it aside instead for later vet emergencies.

They are a scam. They cancelled my policy and three months later they are still taking money from my account. When I called I got nothing but an ignorant phillipino basically laughing at me. Avoid this company at all costs.

Pets Plus Us increased my monthly premiums by almost 150% after paying into the policy for 12 years. This forced me to cancel my policy when I actually stared to need to use it for my aging dog. This company has no ethics. They’ll gladly take your money and then force you out when you need to use their services. I DO NOT recommend them.

Difficult to reach Quebec Representative and you have to leave a message and wait a few days to get a response. Errors with my premium and received an update that it increased from $86 to $850 per month! You wait a long time to get reimbursed.

I seldom write a review for company but I think this is my responsibility to share my experience with Pet Plus us to all the Pet owners out there, I purchased the pet insurance for my dog since she was a baby, first through PC president Choice, I am very happy with them, no issue for any claim. My dog is very healthy in general. Later on Pet Plus us took over PC insurance. They offer the same coverage and it seems ok at the beginning. Until my dog get older, despite her medical claim is very minimal, the insurance premium increase by $50-60 a month, from approx. $110 to $160 monthly, and them became $217 monthly just within 2 years period. Few months ago, we received another renewal noticed said the next renewal in Nov 2025, the insurance premium will be $499.00 per month which is 130 % increase. My dog was 14.5 years old at that time and this is the time that she needs the insurance protection the most, everyone agrees the fact that this insurance company is trying to make me cancel because they know when the dog get older, there may be more claims. They also know no one is going to pay $500 per month + $500 deductable yearly + 20% co-insurance and the owner either pay the ridiculous amount or cancel the policy. I was super upset and demand for explanation from Pet Plus us, all they said was they are no longer offer PC insurance coverage and we can lower the coverage amount with slightly lower premium. I was speechless, my family pay insurance for the whole life of my dog and when she needs it the most, this company do this to us. while I was thinking what to do as the insurance renewal date was approaching, my dog suddenly get very ill and she passed away in Oct, 2025 before the renewal date. While I am grieving for the passing of my dog, I thought I don't have to deal with Pet plus us anymore but this is not the end, now I still have to deal with them for the over charge premium fee they are owing me, they deducted one month premium after my dog pass away and they agree to refund them to me, it has been more than two months since my dog's passing , they still own me the money as of today Dec 23, 2025. I have to call them every few days and push. I am so frustrated therefore I decided to write this review and warning the Pet owners out there. Be careful and make the right choice when select the Pet insurance . ... Show More

I've been a paying client since my first dog back in 2018, so well over 6 years. Have submitted maybe one claim up until this summer, which I submitted the second claim over this time frame. The process of submitting was never clear, had to email them, then after the submission went through, it didn't say anywhere how I was getting any payment back so after a few weeks I reached out wondering how to get my reimbursement. Then realized my file had a wrong address, so I updated it and they said they would cancel the cheque and resend it. It's been about 4 months and I still have not received any reimbursement. No emails from them or anything. My account needed a new credit card about 2 months after my reimbursement submission and I emailed them letting them know that I would update my card when they could tell me when I would get my reimbursement back. Nothing. My account clearly has cancelled because I refuse to pay them for 4 more months after I've submitted a claim and have yet to receive any reimbursement. Horrible customer service with no updates. Definitely will never use this insurance company again. You'd think they would treat their long term clients. ... Show More
